Electrical Machines Laboratory I

Level begin

The Electrical Machines I laboratory at the Isfahan University of Technology is a well-equipped laboratory for both teaching and research activities. The purpose of this lab is to give students hands-on experience in AC and DC machines.

The main objectives of Electrical Machines lab I

  1. To learn more about major types of DC generators and to study the output characteristics of these generators,
  2. To learn more about major types of DC motors and to study the output characteristics of these motors,
  3. To study single-phase transformers’ parameter identification
  4. To investigate starting and speed control methods of three-phase induction motors, both squirrel cage and wound rotor.

List of Experiments

  1. Determination of magnetic characteristic (no-load curve) of the DC machine
  2.  Investigation of separately excited and shunt DC generator
  3. Investigation of compound DC generator
  4. Investigation of different DC motors characteristics
  5. Determination of DC machines efficiency using direct and indirect methods
  6. Investigation of single-phase transformers
  7. Investigation of the IM starting current and torque, as well as machine speed control using star-delta and V/F constant methods
  8. Investigation of the wound rotor IM starting current and torque as well as machine speed control using rotor resistance variation and changing the applied voltage

Equipment

  1. DC machines
  2. Three-phase induction machines, Squirrel cage, and wound rotor
  3. Single-phase transformers
  4. Three-phase autotransformer
  5. Single-phase autotransformer
