In this presentation, we will introduce the concept of mobile cloud from a number of different perspectives. A mobile cloud is a cooperative arrangement of wireless devices that can be connected to each other over short-range links while, at the same time, they may be connected to the overlay cellular network. This architecture provides a flexible platform for sharing resources, not only the typical radio resources but a variety of other resources such as concrete physical resources of the devices, etc. A mobile cloud allows a) enhancing greatly communications performance, b) using resources more efficiently, and c) creating novel cooperative applications that cannot be realized with a single device. A number of examples will be presented an well as some recent research results.
